Here’s a short video we did with Brian Dolle to promote the VERT 2013 Spring collection:
Shanghai is filled with over 20 million people (about the same population as all of Australia) and it’s one of the only cities in China where you can conveniently skate from spot to spot. Since Shanghai is a major city with many of its inhabitants having migrated from the surrounding provinces, during Chinese New Year, the city practically becomes a ghost town, with only the locals and expats left wandering the streets setting off firecrackers. Here we follow Brian Dolle for a day as he cruises through Shanghai’s empty streets choosing to ignore the taxis, metro lines, and buses in favor of a skateboard.

A cloud of pollution has been covering Shanghai over the past week, though on the plus side, it’s been unusually warm for end of January… clocking in at 18 Centigrade for the dead of winter!

She’s breathing in pollutants equivalent to a half pack of cigarettes a day.

Something sinister’s a brewing.

They’ve turned the previous Expo grounds into new malls and expensive coffee shops… and…

Full of amazing skatespots! Pip frontside grinds a sculpture in a vacant lot in a section of Shanghai that few ventures out to.

Pollution can’t keep Dolle inside!

Peak and his perfect marble ledge.

Peak switch ollies over the bar as the sun fades behind the cloud of pollutant particles.

Here are some photos from Ordos City in Inner Mongolia, China which we visited in early September to see if there was anything to skate. The crew consisted of James Capps, Elliot, Brian Dolle, Charles Lanceplaine, Patrik Wallner, Jay Meador, Gustav, Alex Hwang, and myself.

In the Mongolian language, “Ordos” means Palaces and from walking around the city, you def. notice all the unique architecture in the buildings; everything from the art museum to the library. It almost feels like a Greek city, with many massive statues standing everywhere. This is their art museum, which is a nice visit, showcasing the city design and the relationship between Mongols and Han Chinese over the past decade.

Ordos City is known to be one of China’s ghost towns. A city built for millions of people, while lying almost uninhabitated for the most part. This made it quite difficult for us to find places to eat without going to the same food court everyday. It was also very much colder in Ordos than in Shanghai (where we flew in from) and trying to buy a jacket/sweater in Ordos was very difficult since… there was no where to find the stores!

A Mongolian wolf-skin bag on display inside the Ordos Art Museum.

When we arrived in Ordos, we were lucky enough to catch the tailend of the Nadam Festival, a yearly festival consisting of Mongolian wrestling, horseback riding, and archery (think Mongolian Olympics). We weren’t able to catch any of the games themselves, but with the help of the very friendly hotel staff, were able to catch the rehearsals of their closing ceremony…. if only it wasn’t freezing cold outside!

Brian Dolle severely rolled his ankle about an hour after stepping off the airplane warming-up in front of the hotel. With the help of numerous bags of ice and a full day of lying in bed at the hotel, was able to get back on the board within a few days!

Dolle – FS Wallride at the Art Museum.

We took a day off skating to visit the Kubuqi Desert nearby to film the intro to our videoclip (which will be premiering this Friday alongside Patrik’s Meet the Stans clip at Arcade Bar in Shanghai).

Charles Lanceplaine and the homies.

Gustav is far from his home country of Sweden, getting a nice souvenir desert-tan to bring back to Shanghai!

Look out for James’ new FTC part which should be coming out sometime next year!

Jay Meador jumping into the dunes.

Patrik Wallner sledding in the desert.

He was pretty thirsty after spending the day in the sand.

Jay Meador – Ollie over to FS 5-0.

Elliot on the yellow brick road.

Waking up and being out of the hotel by 9am is quite a feat for a large crew of skaters. Alex Hwang catching up on his beauty rest at the spot.

Ordos was an interesting city to visit! The city is full of locals that are enthusiastic for the future of that region! James Capps ends this post with a wallride as a ghost-lady walks by.
Videoclip coming soon!

I know we haven’t been putting out much footage lately as we’ve been saving it for an upcoming projects for the autumn season. We’ll try to have some b-roll/bootydookies out by August!

Smithers with a nice frontside air at the Skullcandy office.

A lot of night skating during the Shanghai summers. Here’s a glimpse at what our new project holds and Stephen Khou putting in work.
