The trip started out in Bondi Beach to catch the Vans’ Bowlarama contest. Went on a cruise along the Sydney Harbour, skated some street spots in Redfern, night skating at the bowl, autograph signings, pouchin on the beach w/ young ockle Danny Lucas, and catch the first show of the Skate Rock Tour among other things.
Bob Burnquist took home 4th in the Vans Bowlarama Contest.

Soon as the contest was over, we rented a WICKED van (consisting of 3 flimsy mattresses, a gas cooker, water pump, a whole bunch of our shit/boards/Hustler zines) and traveled south to Canberra, the capital of OZ. Canberra’s only a 2.5 hr drive from Sydney, but it ended up taking us almost 2 days to get there. We left Sydney about 5pm the first day and stopped in Campbelltown (??) to get some groceries and spent an hour looking for a liquor store b/c it was a Sunday and it seems that outside of Sydney, everything closes at 8pm and we were afraid that there’d be nothing open when we got to our campground in Berrima. As things turned out…. the campground it self wasn’t even open when we arrived about 10pm, so after some nagivating by our captain Morgan, we set up camp in an empty parking lot behind a hotel. In the morning, we realized it was someone’s front yard!
After a million pit stops and a winery for a wine tasting and lunch, we landed in Canberra. Met up with our local contact, Luke, at the Woden Skatepark who took us around to some spots and showed us around town before we retreated to a motel to sleep in a bed and do laundry.
Dan was hyped to skate an 11 stair handrail after sitting in the WICKEDDDDD van for 6+ hours……
The New Zealand equivalent of red bull… I got hooked on these “V” drinks. I was downing at least 2 of these a day.
Luckily Luke had hooked us up and circled some spots for us on the map so we had no problem finding spots for the next 2 days. We stayed in the Canberra Camper Campgrounds where we chilled with a bunch of dingos and people who spend way too much money on hooking up a big screen tv to their shitty trucks/”home”.

Driving back to Sydney, we made it a goal to find kangaroos, eat fish and chips, and stay in a creepy creaky hotel in a gay village, all of which we succeeded in, in no particular order.
